Jack and the Beanstalk
Learner: Kaka
|
Date: 14 November, 2017
|
Learning Area: English Writing Level One

Learning Coach: P.L
|
Learning Observed
| |
In Literacy for writing, we have been learning to think about what is happening in stories we read and practice retelling them.
This group listened to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk being read to them. They then had to write sentences about one part of the story. We know that if there is a word that we can’t spell, we have to say the word and write down the words we can hear in the word.
Kaka shows his capability writing his ideas about the story read to him. He works collaboratively with others and listened carefully showing his curiosity.

Learning Observed
| |
In iExplore, this group have been learning about what’s going on in the world and in particular the Rugby League World Cup. As part of our curiosity, a lot of the learners did not know anything about rugby league. They had some knowledge of rugby and the All Blacks but rugby league is a different code altogether. In this group we’ve looked at the countries that are participating, positions in rugby league and finding out more about this sport and event that’s happening now in Australia and New Zealand.

Learning Observed
| |
In Literacy, our learners have been learning to orally co-construct sentences together. This group have been gifted vocab to add detail to the front to form sentences. This is using the ideas and teachings of Dr Jannie Van Hees.
Learners are to say sentences out loud and repeat them back. Orally, they are to identify where full stops and capital letters. Learners are encouraged to shape their writing by adding detail and information into their writing.
Kaka is beginning to show capability by writing his sentences without support. He is curious about new word groups and gifted vocab and is thinking about how to use them in his writing. Kaka works collaboratively with other learners around him by sharing his ideas but also listening to others and their ideas too.

Learner: Kaka
|
Date: 8 June, 2017
|
Learning Area: Maths
Level One and Two
Use a range of counting, grouping, and equal-sharing strategies with whole numbers and fractions.
Know the forward and backward counting sequences of whole numbers to 100.
|
Learning Coach: P.L
|
Learning Observed
| |
In Maths, we have been learning to add and subtract tens by counting on in tens from any number to 100. We have a rule that if we add and subtract tens, then only the tens change and the ones stay the same. We have been learning place value games to help support our learning.
Kaka showed curiosity by listening carefully to questions asked and to feedback given to improve his understanding. He is being collaborative by working with other learners around him and sharing his ideas. Kaka is beginning to show capability by circling the tens in equations and adding them together. This does not involve renaming or bridging tens.

Kaka was able to cut his first sheet of paper, having strips down the middle without cutting the paper right to the edges. Next, he was able to use another sheet of paper to cut into strips. Kaka thought carefully about the patterns and where each strip was meant to go. Once, he finished Kaka was also to help other learners around him.
Key Competencies/ Vision Principles:
During this activity, Kaka demonstrated that he was connected by actively taking part in learning conversations and activities. Kaka was curious of how this pattern was made and listened carefully to instructions. He showed capability by listening and completing his task independently. Kaka was also collaborative by helping other learners around him.Next Learning Steps:
Take weaving to the next level by using harakeke or by researching and find out other designs in weaving
